Biography
of Robert Jordan
Robert
Jordan was born in 1948 as James Oliver Rigney, Jr. He was born in Charleston,
South Carolina. His mother is unknown and
his father was James Oliver Rigney. When he was four he had taught himself to
read with the help of his brother and by age five he was reading Mark Twain and
Jules Verne. He served two tours in Vietnam
with the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. From that he received the Distinguished
Flying Cross, the Bronze Star with "V", and two Vietnamese Crosses of
Gallantry. He then went and graduated from the Citadel with a degree in math
and physics. After getting a degree, he went and served with the Navy as an
nuclear engineer. Later on, he acquired an injury and had to be hospitalized.
While in the hospital he caught up on his reading. After finishing all his
reading, he decided that he could write just as well as the other authors. Thus
began his Wheel of Time series as well as the other books he has written under
other pseudonyms. He has been writing since 1977 and plans on doing so until he
dies. He has a wife Harriet and they live in Charleston,
South Carolina in a house that was built in
1797.
I
chose Robert Jordan because he is my favorite author and I thought that it would
be very interesting to learn about his background and what his life has been
like. It has definitely interesting learning about him and what caused him to
write.
